Biographical Information[edit]

Gary Owens has played in the US, Australia and Germany.

Owens hit .268/.342/.380 for the 2012 Roswell Invaders, pitching five shutout innings (2 H, 0 BB, 7 K). He allowed 7 runs in 4 2/3 IP for the Adelaide Bite in the 2012-2013 Australian Baseball League. With the '13 Florence Freedom, he batted .294/.415/.382 in 11 games. He played for the Las Vegas Train Robbers in 2014, batting .366/.441/.541 with 46 runs and 43 RBI in 51 games in the high-scoring Pecos League; he was 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA and 20 K in 12 1/3 IP (12 BB). He was 0 for 1 for Adelaide in 2014-2015. He also spent time in the Southern Australian Baseball League, a lesser loop, during some of these winters.

In 2015, he hit .389/.478/.726 for the Bad Homburg Hornets, with 23 RBI in 28 games but struggled on the mound (2-9, 6.32). He was 10th in the southern Bundesliga-1 in average (between Simon Gühring and Max Boldt), tied Jamie McOwen for third in homers (7), was third in slugging (behind Thomas De Wolf and Sascha Lutz), 7th in OBP (between Aaron Dunsmore and Gühring), thirdi n OPS (after De Wolf and Lutz), tied Joel Johnson for 7th with 11 steals, tied Gianny Fracchiolla for the most walks issued (53) and tied Kyle Waddell for the most losses.

He moved to the Stuttgart Reds in 2016 and kept on hitting - .394/.508/.702, while fielding .986 in center and not being used on the mound. He was among the league leaders in average (7th, between Terrell Joyce and Kevin Kotowski), homers (8, 2nd, 2 behind De Wolf), hits (37, tied for 8th), walks (21, tied for 6th with Ludwig Glaser and Lukas Jahn), slugging (3rd, behind De Wolf and Joyce), OBP (4th, between Kotowski and Peter Johannessen) and OPS (2nd to De Wolf). Switching German clubs again, he replaced McOwen with Heidenheim Heideköpfe in 2017 and helped lead them to a title. For the regular season, he produced at a .417/.493/.744 with 39 runs and 39 RBI in 28 games, allowing a 4.24 ERA in two games on the hill. He was third in the league in average (behind Boldt and Drake Zarate), tied Boldt and De Wolf for the most homers (11), led in hits (50, 2 more than Boldt), was second in runs (two behind Boldt), was second in RBI (two behind Boldt), ranked 3rd in slugging (after Boldt and De Wolf), was 5th in OBP (between De Wolf and Jahn), was 4th in steals (11) and 4th in OPS (between Zarate and Maik Ehmcke). He won MVP honors for his work, beating out Triple Crown winner Boldt.
