Biographical Information[edit]
First baseman Gary Collins played briefly in the minors and is a longtime college coach. He was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 12th round of the 1969 amateur draft and played two years in their organization, briefly reaching the AA level.
Collins returned to SIUE as an assistant coach, then was an assistant at Lewis and Clark Community College. From 1979 to 2012 he was the head coach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he led the team to the Division II College World Series five times.
