Biographical Information[edit]

Middle infielder Gary Pyka played in the minor leagues from 1976 to 1978. He was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 12th round of the 1976 amateur draft, one pick after outfielder Rick Peters and a couple ahead of catcher Mike Bishop. He played in their system until partway through 1977, when he was traded with fellow minor leaguer Rick O'Keeffe to the Cincinnati Reds for pitcher Mike Caldwell. He stayed in the Reds system through 1978, which was his only season of 100-plus games. That year, he slashed .248/.295/.306 with 1 home run, 32 RBI and 2 stolen bases in 117 games and 379 at-bats.
