Gabriel Murphy was the first catcher for the Guatemalan national team, playing for them in the 1930 Central American Games. He struggled, going 0 for 9 at the plate and fielding .863 with 3 errors in 4 games, splitting action with Gilberto Samayoa. He was not the worst-fielding catcher in the event as Salvadoran Joaquín Aguilar fared worse.
