Fumio Takahashi was a center fielder in Japan in the 1970s.

Takahashi was a first-round draft pick of the Nishitetsu Lions in the 1970 NPB draft. He was a regular as a rookie in 1971, hitting .249/.278/.299 with 22 steals in 31 tries. The lightweight flyhawk hit .255/.291/.335 in 1972. In 1973, he was farmed out to the Lions' US farm club, the Lodi Lions. He batted .289/.384/.356 for Lodi with 22 swipes in 32 tries. He drew 71 walks. Takahashi was third among California League outfielders with 14 assists behind Mike Vail and Larry Harlow. He was 9th in the Cal League in average.

Takahashi returned to Japan in 1974 and hit only .226/.259/.307 with 12 steals in 19 tries. He led the Pacific League with 21 sacrifice hits. He was just 6 for 31 with a double and a steal in 1975.

Moving on to the Lotte Orions, Takahashi hit .238/.241/.325 in 84 plate appearances and 54 games in 1976, .264/.303/.319 in 79 plate appearances and 60 games in 1977 and .233/.281/.267 in 38 plate appearances and 15 games in 1978 to end his career.

Overall, Takahashi had batted .243/.273/.308 with 45 steals in 67 tries in 491 games in Nippon Pro Baseball, far worse than his performance in the US.
