Biographical Information[edit]

Fumiaki Kadota pitched for nine years in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Kadota was picked by the Taiyo Whales in the first round of the 1977 NPB draft. He was 5-11 with a save and a 5.43 ERA in 39 games (17 starts) as a rookie in 1978. He only pitched 1/3 of an inning (2 BB, 1 UER) in 1979 and 6 1/3 innings (4 H, 4 BB, 4 K, 2 R) in 1980. He did not appear in 1981. In 1982, #15 was a mainstay of the Taiyo rotation, going 8-9 with a 4.85 ERA and .294 opponent average. He allowed more walks (54) than he had strikeouts (49) in 120 2/3 innings.

Kadota was 5-8 with a 5.43 ERA in 1983 and 0-6 with a 7.51 ERA and .320 opponent average in 1984. The former first-rounder had his first winning season at 8-6 in 1985 but had a 5.36 ERA and .311 average allowed. The right-hander was 5-1 with a 2.47 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and .224 opponent average as a reliable reliever in 1986 but he tanked in 1987 (7 R, 10 H in 7 IP) and retired. He later was a batting practice pitcher.

Overall, Fumiaki was 31-41 with a save and a 5.14 ERA in 203 NPB games.
