Biographical Information[edit]

Freddy Zamora was a regular for the Nicaraguan national team of the 1990s.

Zamora hit .222/.280/.356 in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup, but had 3 assists and no errors while starting in center field for Nicaragua. In the 4-3, 13-inning win over Taiwan in the Bronze Medal game, he was 0 for 3 with a walk and two sacrifice hits from the leadoff spot and had an assist. In the 1991 Pan American Games, he hit .387/~.472/.710. During the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, he hit .244/.326/.244. He played left for Nicaragua in the 1995 Intercontinental Cup and produced at a .310/.355/.621 clip with 8 RBI in 9 games; only Nemesio Porras and Norman Cardoze had more RBI for Nicaragua.

In the 1996 Olympics, Zamora was just 1 for 10 with a walk, backing up Anibal Vega in LF, Sandy Moreno in CF and Jose Ramon Padilla in RF. His lone hit was off Fred Lindberg. He batted .190/.227/.190 as Nicaragua's main left fielder in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup. He played in the 1997 Central American Games (a Silver Medal for Nicaragua), 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games (another Silver), 1998 Haarlem Baseball Week (2 for 12, 2B, BB, 5 K) and 1998 Baseball World Cup (0 for 8, 5 K, backing up Jose Reynaldo Padilla in LF).
