Fred Lindberg was an Olympic pitcher.

Lindberg debuted in the 1992-1993 Australian Baseball League, going 2-2 with a 5.09 ERA for the Perth Heat. He was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA for the Australian national team in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup. He fell to 2-4, 8.23 with a .325 opponent average in 1993-1994 and 2-1, 10.13 with a .345 average allowed in 1994-1995. In betwee he was 1-0 with 4 runs (2 earned) in 6 innings in the 1994 Baseball World Cup, fanning seven. In 1995-1996, the big lefty had his best year (2-0, 3.62, .221 opponent average). That earned him a spot on Australia's squad for the 1996 Olympics. He tied for the Australian lead (with Micheal Nakamura) with five games pitched. He allowed 19 hits, 8 walks and 17 runs (12 earned) in 12 2/3 IP but still finished second on Australia in ERA behind Shane Tonkin.

The Minnesota Twins signed Lindberg. Assigned to the 1997 Fort Wayne Wizards, he gave up 16 hits, 5 walks and 5 runs in 12 1/3 innings while fanning eight, but he broke his ankle and never would pitch again in the USA. Returning to action in 1997-1998, he was 1-0 with two saves, a 6.06 ERA and .301 opponent average. He faded further in 1998-1999 (2-3, 8.31, .318 opponent average) and ended with 2 1/3 shutout innings in the 1999-2000 International Baseball League of Australia. Overall, Lindberg had a 12-10, 6.71 record in Australian play.
