Jose Reynaldo Padilla hit 101 home runs in the Nicaraguan amateur leagues (tied for 27th through 2008). In the 1997 Central American Games, his 9 RBI tied his brother Jose Ramon Padilla for the lead. Nicaragua won the Silver Medal. He hit .414/.500/.517 with 7 runs and 7 RBI in 8 games for the Nicaraguan national team in the 1998 Baseball World Cup. Starting ahead of Freddy Zamora in LF, he had two assists and fielded .923. In the Bronze Medal game, he went 2 for 4 while batting second against Diego Ricci; Zamora took over in the 8th as Nicaragua beat Italy, 5-1. His brother manned right for Nicaragua. The Padilla brothers played for Nicaragua when they took the Silver Medal in the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games; after his brother finished his national stint, Reynaldo played for Nicaragua in the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games.
