Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Fred White played in the minor leagues from 1986 to 1993. He never played above Double-A.

He was taken by the Minnesota Twins in the third round of the 1986 amateur draft, ahead of first baseman Reggie Jefferson and pitchers Mike Munoz and Scott Radinsky. Despite posting a 5.11 ERA and walking 22 batters in 24 2/3 innings with the Elizabethton Twins his first pro campaign, the 17-year-old White managed to go without a decision. The next year, back with Elizabethton, he was 0-9 with a 7.53 ERA in 11 starts; In 55 innings, he allowed 35 walks and 76 hits for a WHIP over two. Despite his performance that year, he was promoted to the Kenosha Twins for 1988 and had a respectable 6-8, 3.36 ERA campaign. In 144 1/3 innings, he allowed only 141 hits and 67 walks. He never replicated that relative success again. The ERAs he posted over the rest of his career were 6.79, 5.45, 5.80 (to go along with a 1-9 record as a relief pitcher), 5.13 and 8.15, respectively.

Overall, he was 22-42 with a 5.45 ERA in 172 games (59 starts) in eight campaigns.

He died at only 25 years old.
