Fred Roat played in the National League in 1890 and 1892. He also played at least 11 seasons in the minors.

Born in Oregon, IL, Roat was playing ball for the team based in Danville, IL by age 20. He came to the majors with the 1890 Pittsburgh Alleghenys, and had 215 at-bats while mostly playing third base.

In 1891 he played for Rockford and Lincoln, and then came back to play in the majors with the 1892 Chicago Colts managed by Cap Anson. He also spent part of 1892 with the minor league team in Milwaukee. From 1894-98 he spent at least part of each season playing in the Western League.
