Biographical Information[edit]

Fred Hoey managed the 1899 New York Giants for a little more than half a season. The team was managed for the first part of the season by John Day, who had been the team's first president. Neither manager had ever played major league ball.

The team was owned by Andrew Freedman, called "the worst owner in the world" prior to the time he hired John McGraw to manage the team a few years later. Freeman's decisions had often been eccentric.
