Biography[edit]
Fred Hill Jr. was the long-time coach of the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights baseball team. He managed at Montclair State University from 1977-1983, taking Montclair to the 1983 Division III College World Series before taking over at Rutgers in 1984. He also coached the football team at Montclair State. He won his 900th career game in 2007. Hill retired in February 2014. Under his tenure, Rutgers produced a number of professional players. Major leaguers Eric Young, David DeJesus, Jay Bergmann, Angel Echevarria, Bob MacDonald, Darrin Winston, and Pete Zoccolillo all played under Hill at Rutgers.
Hill was an assistant coach at Caldwell University in 2015-2016 and Kean University in 2017.
Fred Hill's son, Fred Hill, is the head coach of the Rutgers University basketball team and his brother Brian Hill was the head coach of the NBA's Orlando Magic.
