Biographical Information

Angel Echevarria played parts of seven seasons in the major leagues.

After attending Rutgers University, Echevarria was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 17th round of the 1992 amateur draft. He reached the majors with the Rockies in 1996 and had his best year with the club in 1999, hitting .293 with 11 home runs in 102 games. He moved on to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2000 and then joined the Chicago Cubs in 2002, hitting .306 in one summer with the team. He crossed the Pacific in 2003, hitting 31 homers for the Nippon Ham Fighters. After one more season in Japan, he returned to the Cubs organization briefly in 2005, and then ended his career with stints in the Mexican League and the independent Atlantic League. As a DH-1B for the Puerto Rican national team in the 2005 Baseball World Cup, he hit only .083/.241/.125.

Following his playing days, Echevarria was a baseball instructor in Norwalk, Connecticut. He died at age 48 in 2020.
