Biographical Information[edit]

Fred "Red" Bennett was a backup for Paul Waner on the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1932 and had previously appeared on the St. Louis Browns in 1928. He was also a minor league slugger who almost always hit well over .300. One wonders why Bennett did not come earlier to the majors, since he always hit at least .345 in the minors from 1924-1929, and had 35 homers with the Tulsa Oilers in 1928 (Joe Munson, a former major leaguer who had hit decently in the bigs, had more homers and had a higher batting average that year at Tulsa).
