Biographical Information[edit]
Frank Whitney was the fourth outfielder for the Boston Red Caps in 1876. It was his only season in the majors. He was 20 years old at the time, and he and Foghorn Bradley were the youngest players on the team, which was managed by Harry Wright.
His younger brother was Art Whitney, who played eleven seasons in the majors. They both died in the second half of 1943.
In 1888 it was reported that he was a jewelry drummer.
Another 19th Century player, Jim Whitney, was also on occasion referred to as Jumbo Whitney.
