Biographical Information

Foghorn Bradley pitched just one year in the majors, for Boston in 1876. His ERA of 2.49 was not much above the team ERA of 2.26 - the team consisting primarily of three pitchers, with Jack Manning having a lower ERA and Joe Borden having a higher one. Foghorn was 20, while Jack and Joe were 22 years old. Bradley had previously played with a top amateur club.

He was an umpire in the National League from 1879-1883 and the American Association in 1886. He also was a fill-in for one game in the National Association in 1875. He and Billy McLean were the two most prominent umpires in the early years of the NL, and Bradley held the record for most career games umpired when he left the NL and was passed by McLean.

After his umpiring days, he became a policeman.

His nephew was Hugh Bradley.
