Biographical Information[edit]

After a brief pro career as an outfielder with the 1872 Middletown Mansfields, Frank McCarton went on to serve as a New York City police officer for nearly twenty years, achieving the rank of lieutenant at the time of his death.

Although he played only the one year, McCarton was not only the youngest player on the team but probably also the best hitter. His batting average was second-best on the team (behind Tim Murnane) and his slugging percentage was a close second on the team (behind player-manager John Clapp).
