Biographical Information[edit]

Frank Ensley played in the minors and the Negro Leagues.

Ensley was captain of Grambling's baseball team and co-captain of the football team (coached by the legendary Eddie Robinson). He hit .378 in college then was signed by Chicago White Sox scout John Donaldson. [1] He hit only .208 and slugged .218 for the Superior Blues that summer. He played for the Indianapolis Clowns and Kansas City Monarchs. [2]

In the 1954 East-West Game, he hit 6th and started in left field for the East. He got a second crack at the minors with the Milwaukee Braves system. In 1956, he batted .258/?/.317 for the Evansville Braves. He hit .249/.363/.330 for the 1957 Eau Claire Braves, drawing 71 walks in 119 games. He fielded .968 in the outfield and also saw action at 2B and 3B. He tied Harry Huber for 5th in the Northern League in walks, two behind Don Mincher.

He later was assistant coach at Grambling then was a teacher and coach in Louisiana. [3]
