Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Francisco Diaz began his professional career in the Philadelphia Phillies system at 17 years old in 2007. He was signed by scouts Sal Agostinelli and Jesus Mendez. He was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Triple A portion of the 2011 Rule V Draft. He remained in the Pirates system until 2015 when he was let go and signed as a free agent by the New York Yankees. In 2016, his 10th professional season, he reached Triple A for the first time. In six at-bats, he had one hit. A batter with limited power, Diaz did not hit his first pro home run until his 6th season. Through 2016, he averaged one home run every 277.8 at-bats.
One report states that Diaz spent 2 seasons coaching in the Miami Marlins' organization [1], but this could not be verified by other sources. It appears he was a catching coach for the FCL Marlins in 2022. He moved to the Atlanta Braves' chain as a coach for the Augusta GreenJackets in 2023 and Mississippi Braves in 2024.
In addition to coaching in the United States, Diaz served as the first base coach for the Bravos de Margarita of the Venezuelan League during the 2021/2022 to 2023/2024 seasons.
