Fort Lauderdale Red Sox

- League: Florida State League 1993
- Affiliation: Boston Red Sox 1993
- Ballpark: Fort Lauderdale Stadium
In 1993 the long-time Fort Lauderdale Yankees were abolished when the New York Yankees briefly pulled out of the Florida State League. The Boston Red Sox had tried to put a team in Fort Myers, FL but that didn't work out due to the presence of the Fort Myers Miracle, so the Red Sox placed a team in Fort Lauderdale, FL for one year while continuing negotiations with Fort Myers over compensation for territorial rights.
The club was a horrible 46-85, last in the 13-team league, 37 games behind the Charlotte Rangers and 7 and a half behind the Fort Myers Miracle. The club was 12th of 13 teams in batting average, 12th in doubles, 13th in steals, 11th in walks and 13th in runs (494 in 131 games). They also struggled on the hill, posting a league-worst 4.45 ERA and allowing the most runs (682). The top position player was 1B Ryan McGuire, who hit .324/~.400/.455. He led the team with just 38 RBI.
The club drew just 28,240 fans and due to their poor play and competition from the Florida Marlins, they were just 12th of 13 FSL clubs in attendance. The next season the Red Sox had moved their FSL affiliate to Sarasota, FL where they became the Sarasota Red Sox.
