Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Fernando Perez was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as an international amateur free agent out of Nicaragua on January 15, 2022. He began his professional career that same year with the DSL Blue Jays, going 1-4, 4.52 in 12 games, all starts.

He began to emerge as a serious prospect in 2023, when he was named a post-season All-Star in the Florida Complex League and Rookie-Class All-Star by Baseball America. Pitching for the FCL Blue Jays, he went 2-2, 2.72 in 11 games (10 starts), logging 49 2/3 innings while allowing 35 hits and 12 walks and striking out 57 batters. On August 7th that year, he was the starting pitcher for the FCL Blue Jays in a nine-inning combined no-hitter over the FCL Phillies. In 2024, he was promoted to the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League, where he had already set a new career high for innings by the end of June. That coincided to his being named to the American League squad at the 2024 Futures Game, a welcome development for a Blue Jays organization that had very few top level pitching prospects, and even fewer healthy ones.
