Biographical Information[edit]
Félix Fermín's main claim to fame in the US is that he was traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Seattle Mariners in return for Omar Vizquel, in what is arguably the worst trade in Mariners history. Fermin was a shortstop in the major leagues for a decade, especially noted for his bunting ability. He won a Gold Medal with the Dominican national team in the 1982 Central American and Caribbean Games as they upset the mighty Cubans for first place; he backed up Orlando Guerrero and Ivan Crispin. He was originally signed in 1983 by Pittsburgh Pirates scout Pablo Cruz.
Fermin has won a record six Dominican League titles as a manager as well as three Caribbean Series. In 2007, he managed the Monterrey Sultans to the Mexican League title and took the team back to the finals the next year, losing to the Mexico City Red Devils.
His brother Carlos Fermín reached AA and his son Andy Fermín was drafted in 2010.
