Zabaleta was signed by New York Mets scouts Hector Rincones and Carlos Perez in May 2015. [1] He pitched one game for the 2015 DSL Mets 2 and took the loss (2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K). He split 2016 between the DSL Mets 2 (2-0, 0.60 in 3 G) and GCL Mets (0-2, 3.28 in 9 G), walking only 5 in 39 2/3 IP. He made the Colombian team's designated pitcher pool for the 2017 World Baseball Classic but was never activated. [2]
That summer, he struggled with the Kingsport Mets (2-3, 6.68, .320 opponent average). He allowed 82 hits, one shy of the Appalachian League lead. He split 2018 between the St. Lucie Mets (1-0, Sv, 1.59 in 3 G) and Brooklyn Cyclones (0-1, 2 Sv, 1.47), walking 4 in 24 innings overall.
He then made Colombia's squad for the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier. [3]
