European Association of Professional Baseball
The European Association of Professional Baseball/Euro League Baseball was founded in May 2015 with top teams from several European countries as the first pan-European league. Plans were to begin play in 2016. Founding members were T&A San Marino (San Marino), Rouen Huskies (France), Vaessen Pioniers (Netherlands), Curaçao Neptunus (Netherlands), CB Barcelona (Spain), Templiers Senart (France), Buchbinder Legionäre Regensburg (Germany), CB Sant Boi (Spain), Unipol Bologna (Italy) and Bonn Capitals (Germany). In September 2015, the L&D Amsterdam Pirates replaced Vaessen as one of the Dutch entries.
The tentative schedule for 2016 featured each team playing 18 games (the original plan had been four games against each other team, with games Monday through Thursday). Games would be played Monday and Tuesday or Tuesday and Wednesday so as not to conflict with the schedules in individual countries, which ran Friday through Sunday. The regular season will begin April 4 with most of the teams starting off with matchups against their national rival. The championship series is slated to begin September 23. Those plans fell through and only four teams were announced in February as being slated to continue - Draci Brno, the Haar Disciples (Germany), Regensburg and a Team Amsterdam composed of players from across Europe, a far cry from the original expectations. Further complications struck in early May when Amsterdam (yet to play a game) was hit by the withdrawal of players from the L&D Amsterdam Pirates, whom they heavily relied upon, as the Pirates feared it would affect their eligibility for the 2016 European Cup.
