Biographical Information[edit]

Esquía Rengel has played for the Venezuelan women's national team.

In the 2015 Pan American Games, the 17-year-old was 2 for 2 with a steal, backing up Migreily Angulo in LF and Lelis Gómez at 2B. She was 0-1 with a 3.62 ERA as their most-used hurler (9 2/3 IP). In the semifinal (with the loser taking the Bronze Medal), she got a key start against Canada and outdueled Autumn Mills 1-0 through 4 1/2 innings but faded in the fifth and took the loss. [1] She was primarily a center fielder in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup, hitting .231/.333/.308 with three runs and three RBI in eight games, stealing four bases in four tries. She had one error in six chances and got to pitch again versus Canada, but allowed two runs in 1 2/3 IP in a loss to Claire Eccles. Hitting 8th in the Bronze Medal Game, she was 0 for 3 against Yu-Chen Hsu but Venezuela beat Taiwan, giving her two Bronze Medals as a teenager. [2]

Rengel backed up Leonela Reyes in center in the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, going 3 for 7 with a walk, double, 4 runs and 5 RBI as an excellent back-up. On the mound, she was 0-1 with a 5.44 ERA, with a no-decision against South Korea and another loss to the powerful Canadians, dropping a 5-0 decision to Amanda Asay. [3]
