Biographical Information[edit]
Ervin "Jim" Curtiss was a busy guy in 1891. He played 27 games for the Cincinnati Reds of the National League and 29 games for the Washington Statesmen of the major league American Association - but that wasn't all, as he also hit .329 with some power for the Denver Mountaineers of the Western Association. The Reds bought him from Denver in July.
It probably didn't help his career that the American Association folded after that year.
He was born in Coldwater, MI, the same place where Coldwater Jim Hughey lived and died (although he wasn't born there, so Ervin is the only major leaguer with that distinction). Hughey also made his major league debut in the American Association in 1891.
