Biographical Information[edit]

Ernesto Silva has pitched in the minors and for the Panamanian national team.

Silva signed with the Atlanta Braves in 2008; the scout was Luis Ortiz. He debuted the next summer with the DSL Braves, going 4-1 with a 4.15 ERA. In 2010, he was 2-1 with a 4.57 ERA and .337 opponent average with the GCL Braves. For the 2011 Danville Braves, he was 5-5 with a 5.49 ERA; he tied for 5th in the Appalachian League in wins and tied for 10th in losses. He was 3rd with 8 hit batsmen. In 2012, he pitched for Danville (5-1, 3.80, 9 BB in 64 IP) and the Rome Braves (0-6, 6.53, .317 average allowed). He was 7th in the Appalachian League in ERA.

Silva was with Panama for the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his first outing, he took the loss in a 3-2 decision against Brazil. Relieving Angel Cuan in the top of the 4th with a 2-2 tie, one on and two out, he committed a balk then fanned Paulo Orlando. In the 5th, he walked Leonardo Reginatto and allowed a hit to Yan Gomes. After a sacrifice by Reinaldo Sato, he was relieved by Ramiro Mendoza, who allowed a run to score, costing Panama the game and giving Silva the decision. In his other outing, Ernesto relieved Alberto Acosta with a 6-2 lead against Colombia, in the bottom of the 4th with one on and one out. He gave up a sacrifice fly to Luis Sierra then got Giovanny Urshela to end the inning. In the 5th, he allowed a single to Steve Brown and Dilson Herrera reached on an error before Mendoza again relieved.
