Erik Vardijan pitched for the Croatian national team in four European Championships; his brother Dan Vardijan pitched in the minors and for Croatia.

Erik was 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA and 6 BB in 5 IP in the 1999 European Championship, losing to Great Britain; he was relieved by Goran Strelec. He also was their primary DH, hitting .154/.154/.308. He was second on the team in slugging, .005 behind Branko Nenadic. He went 0-1 with a 4.80 ERA in the 2001 European Championship, walking 14 in 15 innings. He tied Jimmy Summers for second in those Euros in walks, one behind Alain Gadoua.

Vardijan made his collegiate debut with St. Joseph's that year, going 2-4 with a 10.42 ERA and 2.18 WHIP. In 2002, he improved to 3-5, 6.05 with a 1.80 WHIP but he regressed to 3-5, 7.60 with a 2.05 WHIP in 2003. In the 2003 European Championship, he had his best Euros performance, going 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA, losing to Britain. He was 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in the 2005 European Championship, allowing 6 hits and 7 walks in 6 innings before Matija Grofelnik relieved in a loss to the Czech national team. He also was 0 for 2 with a walk backing up Romeil Agladius at catcher.
