Biographical Information[edit]
Matija Grofelnik has represented Croatia on the international stage. In the 1999 European Championship, he was 2 for 16 with a double and 9 strikeouts as Croatia's starting third baseman. He was worse in the 2001 European Championship, striking out in all six at-bats and drawing one walk. He went one for six with a walk, three strikeouts and two errors in the 2003 European Championship. He pitched one scoreless inning as well, allowing two hits.
He was 1 for 14 with a double in the 2005 European Championship, fielding .947 at third base and had a 4.50 ERA in two games pitched. In the 2007 European Championship, Grofelnik had a 5.40 ERA and one save in three pitching appearances. During the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers, Grofelnik was 4 for 16 with a double, homer, 4 runs and 2 RBI to help Croatia win a spot in the 2010 European Championship.
