Biographical Information[edit]

Eric Wordekemper pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Wordekemper was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 46th round of the 2005 Amateur Draft, and he had a 2.12 ERA in 9 games for the GCL Yankees while recording a 4.50 ERA in 2 games with the Staten Island Yankees that summer. He then had a solid 1.81 ERA in 39 appearances for the Charleston RiverDogs, going 4-3 with 7 saves. Wordekemper pitched 43 games with a 0.57 ERA as the closer of the Tampa Yankees, and he notched 33 saves. He led the Florida State League in saves (3 ahead of Connor Falkenbach), made the postseason All-Star team (other pitchers chosen were Luke Gregerson, Daniel McCutchen, Jacob McGee, Adam Ottavino and Josh Outman) and he also won the Most Valuable Pitcher Award. He was 5th in the affiliated minors in saves, 3 behind leader Steven Register.

In 2008, Wordekemper mainly stayed with the Trenton Thunder, and he recorded a 3.93 ERA in 33 games (3-2, 6 Sv). He then recorded a 3.00 ERA in 28 games for the Thunder in 2009 (1-2, Sv), and he also pitched 10 games for the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees with a 4.32 ERA (2-0, Sv). Wordekemper split time between AA and AAA in 2010, and his ERA was 2.88 in 23 games with the Thunder and 3.13 in 24 games for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. He was 5-0 with 9 saves between the two stops. He tied Ryan Flannery for 5th in the Yankees chain in appearances and tied Francisco Gil for 6th in saves. He had a 3.60 ERA in 42 games in Scranton in 2011 (his 4th and final AAA season), then he became a free agent.

Wordekemper signed with the Uni-President Lions in 2012, and he was 3-4 with a 4.36 ERA. He was released in the middle of the season, and he recorded a 2.70 ERA in 9 relief outings for the Olmecas de Tabasco. Wordekemper’s ERA was 3.65 in 10 games with the Camden Riversharks in 2013, and he spent his last two seasons with the Sioux City Explorers. He was 8-2 with a 4.64 ERA in 2015, and he went 1-2 with a 7.45 ERA in 2016.

From 2014-2022, he was volunteer coach then pitching coach at his alma mater. He then became a Miami Marlins scout.
