Biographical Information[edit]
Eric Theisen pitched for the Illinois State University Redbirds from 2005-2008. He started his move into coaching as a graduate assistant coach at Siena Heights University in 2009. His playing days weren't quite behind him though, as he was drafted by the independent league Traverse City Beach Bums in spring 2009 and went to spring training with them. Theisen then traveled to Belgium and played for the Brussels Kangaroos. Following these playing forays, Theisen returned to Siena Heights for the 2010 baseball season. He gained additional coaching experience as an assistant coach with the Battle Creek Bombers in the summer of 2010.
Theisen joined the Hillsdale College Chargers as an assistant coach in 2010 and stayed there for the next eleven years. He was an assistant coach from 2011-2013. When long time head coach Paul Noce retired, Theisen was named the new head coach. During his tenure, the Chargers reached new heights and Theisen led the team to two NCAA Division II playoff berths in a three year span.
In May 2021 the Milwaukee Brewers lured Theisen away from the college game and he served as the hitting coach for the Carolina Mudcats. He received a promotion in 2022 to minor league assistant hitting coordinator, a role he continued through 2024. In the latter year he also worked as a hitting coach for the Nashville Sounds. Theisen took another step upward in 2025 as he was named a hitting coach for the Brewers alongside Al LeBoeuf and Connor Dawson.
Theisen is the son of long-time college coach Gordie Theisen.
