Biographical Information[edit]

Elry Britton was an outfielder who won a Nicaraguan batting title. His son Dwight Britton played in the minors; both played for the Nicaraguan national team.

Britton debuted in Nicaragua in 1984 with Costa Atlantica, hitting .270/.331/.344. He improved to .328/.382/.398 and played for Nicaragua in the 1985 Intercontinental Cup. In 1986, he batted .330/.378/.418 in Nicaragua. He starred in the 1986 Central American Games, going 12 for 18 with a team-high 4 doubles and 3 steals as Nicaragua won the Gold Medal. He led the event in average but not in hits; teammate Julio Medina had two more.

He hit .321/.398/.430 for Costa Atlantica in 1988 (he apparently did not play in 1987). In '89, he hit .379/.414/.478. He helped Nicaragua to a Silver Medal in the 1990 Central American Games but slumped to .225/.295/.250 in the 1990 Baseball World Cup; starting in RF for Nicaragua, he had 16 putouts, one assist and no errors. He hit .389/.444/.559 with 73 runs in 97 games in 1990 to win the Nicaraguan batting title. Despite that excellent campaign, it was his last. He finished with a .342/.398/.451 lifetime batting line and 252 runs in 397 games.
