Biographical Information[edit]

Eiichiro Takahashi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Takahashi was signed by the Yomiuri Giants in 1961, and he pitched 10 games with a 2.52 ERA in his rookie year. He pitched a shutout inning in 1961 Nippon Series Game 1, then he recorded another 2 shutout innings in Game 5. The Giants beat the Nankai Hawks in 6 games, and Takahashi won his first Nippon Series title. He only pitched 7 games for the Giants in 1962, and the Giants traded him to the Hawks for Masahisa Fukuda. Takahashi broke out after changing teams, and he was 11-6 with a 3.17 ERA in 1963. He was also selected into the 1963 NPB All-Star Games, but he allowed 4 runs in 2 2/3 innings in Game 2. Eiji Fujii and Shigeo Nagashima each crushed a 2-run homer against him. He was then moved to the bullpen, and he recorded a 3.63 ERA in 28 appearances in 1964 and a 4.08 ERA in 33 games in 1965. Takahashi pitched 15 games in 1966 with a 4.64 ERA, but his ERA rose to 15.64 in 1967 and he announced his retirement. He was the Mayor of Shinjo City from 1989 to 2007, and he passed away due to pancreatic cancer in 2007.

Overall, Takahashi was 14-17 with a 3.99 ERA, struck out 178 and pitched 382 2/3 innings in 7 years in NPB.
