Biographical Information

Outfielder Edwar Gonzalez was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2000 and the Chicago Cubs in 2001. He was apparently traded to the New York Yankees at some point since he played in the Yankees minor league system from 2002-2010. In his final season he reached AAA and appeared in four games. Overall Gonzalez hit .257/.307/.400 while appearing in 770 games.

After his playing career ended Gonzalez joined the Yankees player development system. He was the hitting coach for the GCL Yankees in 2011-2012, the GCL Yankees 2 in 2013, the Charleston RiverDogs in 2014, and the Pulaski Yankees in 2015. He was initially scheduled to return to Pulaski in 2016 but was promoted to Minor League Lower Level Hitting Coordinator at some point and Kevin Mahoney served as the Pulaski hitting coach in his stead. He continued as a minor league hitting coordinator with the Yankees through the 2019 season.

In 2020 Gonzalez joined the Miami Marlins organization, also as a hitting coordinator. This job lasted for two years. In 2022 Gonzalez finally reached the major leagues when the Marlins named him an assistant hitting coach for that season, but he was let go along with manager Don Mattingly at the end of the year.
