Biographical Information[edit]

Eduardo Benítez was on the Venezuelan national team in the 1970 Amateur World Series. [1] He was signed by the Boston Red Sox. He went 7-7 with a 2.58 ERA for the 1971 Winter Haven Red Sox. He was near the Florida State League top 10 in ERA (falling short both in ERA and IP). [2]

He was 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA for the 1971-1972 Águilas del Zulia in his Venezuelan Winter League debut. He was 1-4 with a save and a 2.54 ERA for Winter Haven in '72, moving to relief primarily. He was 2-1 with 3 saves and a 2.21 ERA that winter and added three shutout innings and a save in the postseason. [3] He tied Juan Quiroz for 9th in the league with 21 games pitched and he tied Ed Farmer, Camilo Pascual and Jackie Brown for 6th in saves.

Benítez split 1973 between the Wilson Pennants and Winston-Salem Red Sox (a combined 1-1, Sv, 4.98) to end his US career. In the winter, he pitched seven games for Zulia (2.45) and ten for the Tigres de Aragua (0-2, Sv, 6.27). He had a 3.00 ERA in brief action for the 1974-1975 Tigres. He did not pitch in the 1975-1976 LVBP then had a 3.60 ERA in six games for the 1976-1977 Cardenales de Lara to end his career.
