Biographical Infomation

After playing college football at Washington State University for a year, Eddie Zydowsky began his minor league career in 1939. He split the season between the Moline Plow Boys (.275, 13 HR, .438 SLG, playing SS) and Milwaukee Brewers (9 for 34, 2B, playing 3B). Zydowsky had a big year for the 1940 Hot Springs Bathers at .389 with 40 doubles, 12 triples, 25 home runs and a .678 slugging. He also appeared for the Tulsa Oilers, hitting .230/?/.328 in 17 games. He was second in the Cotton States League in average (one point behind Thurman Tucker), led in slugging (81 points over Tucker), was third in doubles, tied Bud Clancy for 6th in triples, led with 157 RBI and tied LaMonte Duncan for the home run lead. In 1941, he hit .262 with 27 doubles and 16 home runs for Tulsa. He was 4th in the Texas League in dingers behind Jake Jones, Jerry Witte and Rip Russell, who would all play in the majors. Moved to the outfield, he fielded .981 with 11 assists.

He then served in the Army during World War II, derailing his prospects significantly. Following the war, he returned to the minors for one more season, but was a shadow of his former self, hitting .197 and slugging .224 in 35 games between Tulsa and the Shreveport Sports.
