Pitcher Eddie Degerman began his college baseball career at the University of California, Irvine before transferring to Rice University in 2003. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 41st round of the 2005 amateur draft but chose to stay in college instead. The following year, he was chosen by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth round of the 2006 amateur draft. He made his pro debut that summer, going 2-1 with a 2.76 ERA in 9 games for the State College Spikes. In an August 18th outing against the Aberdeen IronBirds, he struck out 9 batters in 4 innings.

Degerman began 2007 with the Swing of the Quad Cities, going 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 1 save after splitting time between the rotation and the bullpen. He was promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals in June and went 4-4 with 57 strikeouts but a 5.93 ERA in 11 outings for the team. Back with Palm Beach the following summer, he was 3-1 with a 5.96 ERA while pitching primarily out of the pen. He was 2-2 with a 7.42 in 26 relief outings for the Springfield Cardinals in 2009 before being released by St. Louis. He ended the year playing in one game for the River City Rascals in the Frontier League.
