Biographical Information[edit]
Ed Phillips, the last major league player to come out of Colby College in Maine, pitched 18 games in one year in the major leagues. His entire big league career was spent with the Boston Red Sox in 1970, on a team that went 87-75. Phillips was the same age as teammates Sparky Lyle, Reggie Smith, and Tony Conigliaro.
Phillips and his contemporary Tommie Sisk are the only two major leaguers born in Ardmore, OK. He was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979 and the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. He died on his 73rd birthday.
