Biographical Information[edit]

Kickapoo Ed Kippert was a 35-year old rookie with the Cincinnati Reds in 1914. He was the oldest player on the team that year.

His minor league career appears to have started in 1902, and lasted through 1916. Much of his career was with teams in the Northwest such as the Spokane Indians, the Tacoma Tigers and the Vancouver Beavers. At age 34, he had the highest batting average on the 1913 Vancouver Beavers, hitting .325 while the next highest batter (Bill Brinker) was at .288.

"Manager Herzog yesterday cut down his squad by releasing Ed Kippert to the Montreal Club, of the International League . . . Kippert, who is a hard hitter and a good base runner, is sure to make good in Class AA." - from Sporting Life, April 25, 1914
