Biographical Information[edit]
Ed "Battleship" Gremminger played in the National League in 1895 and 1902-04. His 383 major league games were all at third base.
In 1902 Ed was fifth in the league in triples, behind Sam Crawford, Tommy Leach, Honus Wagner and Fred Clarke.
Gremminger spent 1896-1901 at Buffalo and Rochester. After his major league days he played at Minneapolis, Kane, Montgomery and Canton, and he managed at the last two. He was born and died in Canton, OH. Also born in Canton in 1874 was Ed Poole.
Ed got his second major league shot after hitting .343 with 10 homers and 14 triples in 1901.
The book Christy Mathewson: A Game-by-Game Profile of a Legendary Pitcher describes a game Christy pitched on July 28, 1903 wherein Gremminger had a sacrifice, single, double and home run.
Sporting Life usually spelled his name with one "m": Greminger.
