Biograohical Information

Earl Howard pitched at least one season for Ira Plank's Gettysburg (PA) College baseball team in 1915.

He played three seasons in the Class D Blue Ridge League from 1915 through 1917. He went 14-10 with the Gettysburg Patriots in 1915, and pitched and won a complete 18-inning game against the Frederick Hustlers, 2-1 that season. He pitched for the Hagerstown Terriers in 1916 and 1917, and set the Blue Ridge League record with 25 wins in 1917, while also leading the league in strikeouts, leading Hagerstown to their first league pennant.

Howard was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers prior to the 1918 season and pitched one game in the major leagues for the St. Louis Cardinals in April of 1918 before joining the Army Aviation Corps during World War I.

He returned to the mound in 1920 with the Milwaukee Brewers of the American Association, but had arm trouble. He pitched professionally through the 1928 season, finishing as a relief pitcher for Walter Johnson's Newark Bears of the International League.

He died at age 43 from pneumonia and is buried at the Everett Cemetery in Everett, PA.
