Biographical Information[edit]
Not to be confused with Dutch Meyer, a player with a similar name, Dutch Meier attended Princeton University, where he played baseball and football. He was there at the same time as fellow big leaguers Homer Hillebrand and Fred Winchell.
Meier reached the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1906, backing up a pair of future Hall of Famers: Honus Wagner at shortstop and Fred Clarke in left field. Although the 1906 Pirates won 93 games, they were far behind the 1906 Cubs who won 116 games that year.
After one season with the Pirates, Meier never again played in the majors. He later returned to Princeton as the school's baseball coach. In 1925, he played on the "Chicago" team in an old-timer's game as a benefit for the Amateur and Old-timer's Baseball Association of Cleveland.
