Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Dusty Robinson played in the minor leagues from 2011 to 2016. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 10th round of the 2011 amateur draft, out of Fresno State University and played in their system until 2014. He never progressed past Class A but showed some good power, with 27 homers in 132 games between the Burlington Bees and Stockton Ports in 2012, and another 21 homers for Stockton in 2013. After being let go by the A's, he played in the independent leagues for a while, largely in the Frontier League, although he also had 17 games in the American Association with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks in 2014.

What kept him from moving up the minor league ladder was his tendancy to strike out too much. His two seasons with 20+ homers also saw him strike out 162 and 146 times, respectively. On May 21, 2013, playing for Stockton in the California League, he set a record by striking out 7 times in 8 at-bats in an 11-9 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm. He was the first minor league player to strike out seven times in a game since Russ Laribee had done so in 1981; Laribee had an excuse, though, as this came during the longest game in Organized Baseball history, which lasted 33 innings, and in which he came to bat 12 times to accumualte all those strikeouts.
