Biographical Information

Dusty Boggess was a National League umpire from 1944 to 1962.

The 1969 Guide listed Boggess as "a versatile player who played all positions in a minor league career that extended from 1923 through 1933". Boggess was a shortstop turned third baseman turned catcher, who spent a number of years as high as the Texas League. He was a manager/part owner/catcher of the Muskogee Chiefs/Hutchinson Wheat Shockers in the 1932 Western Association. He was the manager/catcher of the El Dorado Lions in the 1932 Dixie League for half the year before retiring.

Boggess began umpiring in the Western League in 1939. He moved the Texas League in 1940-1942 and the International League in 1943 until retiring in July because of ill health. He moved up to the NL in 1944. In the National League, he umpired over 2,500 regular season games, and was on duty for four World Series. In 1949, he was sent down to the American Association at the start of the year, but was back in the NL in September, umpiring 16 games, then resumed regular duties the following season.
