Biographical Information[edit]

Duke Sims played eleven seasons in the majors for five teams. He had most of his seasons with the Cleveland Indians during the second dead-ball era, and showed some power with a high of 23 home runs in 1970 in 110 games.

A solid defensive catcher whose career batting average of .239 was deceiving, Sims retired with a very respectable .340 OBP - better than many "higher-average" lifetime hitters. He could also play the outfield.

Sims is the only major leaguer born in Utah to get over 2,000 at-bats in the majors.

He is one of three major leaguers with the last name Sims (as of July 2007).

He spent one season, 1986, as a minor league manager, splitting his time between two White Sox farm teams, the Appleton Foxes and the Peninsula White Sox.
