Dubuque Royals

From BR Bullpen

The Dubuque Royals were one of two teams the Kansas City Royals had in the minors in the year before their inaugural season (the other was the Corning Royals). They replaced the Dubuque Packers and had players donated by at least 8 other organizations. The Royals outscored their opponents 609-573, leading the Midwest League in both runs and runs allowed, presumably thanks to an offense-friendly park. After a third-place first half finish (32-24), they were last in the 10-team MWL in the second half (22-37). Bob Bellemare (12-9, 2.76, 180 K in 173 IP) was fourth in the league in ERA and tied for the lead in complete games (12) and shutouts (3) while finishing second to phenom Vida Blue in ERA. Joining him as Dubuque's All-Stars were 1B Pete Middlekauff (.277/~.354/.451) and C Bob Mewes (.277/~.351/.407).
