Biographical Information

Dong-woo Kang has played over a decade in the Korea Baseball Organization. Kang was a first-round pick of the Samsung Lions out of college. He had a very good rookie year in 1998, hitting .300/~.365/.466 with 8 triples and 22 steals (in 29 tries), getting the leadoff job right away. Unfortunately, he fractured his leg in game two of the playoffs and would never fully recover. Kang had been slated to play for Korea in the 1998 Asian Games but was replaced by Jae-hak Shim.

Kang returned to the field in 2000 but went only 2 for 20 (with 8 walks). In 2001, he hit .251/~.348/.357 with 6 steals while returning to a regular role. The next year, he batted .288/~.353/.408 and scored 75 runs. In 2003, Dong-woo hit .266/~.351/.388. He produced at a .295/~.368/.370 rate in 2004. In 2005, Kang hit .240/~.324/.346.

Kang was traded to the Doosan Bears following the '05 campaign. He batted .249/~.333/.305 in 2006. In 2007, he was 7 for 43 with 5 walks, a double, triple and a home run, his first time in 7 seasons that he was not a starter. He was then dealt to the KIA Tigers but only went 4 for 40 with 9 walks and a double in 2008.

Kang was traded once more, to the Hanwha Eagles. They inserted him as their starting center fielder and leadoff man and he was hitting .298/.394/.412 after 27 games, his best work in years.
