Biographical Information[edit]

Don Garvey was the All-American second baseman in NCAA Division III in 1991. The Pittsburgh Pirates chose him in the 20th round of the 1991 amateur draft, one round after Marc Pisciotta. Don hit .229/.309/.299 for the Welland Pirates that year and fielded just .917 as their main second baseman; his double play partner was future All-Star second baseman Tony Womack.

In 1992, Don played at least 10 games at each infield position for the Augusta Pirates and saw a little time in the outfield and on the mound. He hit .230/.304/.262. He ended his baseball playing career in 1993 as a utility man for Augusta (.169/.245/.242 in 43 G) and the Salem Buccaneers (.204/.258/.303 in 54 G). In 214 games, he had put up a .211/.282/.278 line and he had allowed 6 runs in 5 2/3 IP on the mound.

Garvey later became a salesman for Werner Electric Supply in Neenah, Wisconsin, and also played for the USA national men's softball team, a role he still held in 2009 at age 38.
