Dominican Republic Team

From BR Bullpen

The Dominican Republic Team is a team composed of players from the Dominican Republic not under contract in organized baseball which played a schedule of games in the Can-Am Association in 2017. The team joined the Cuban national team which played a similar schedule in 2016 and returned in 2017 as well. The Shikoku Island All-Stars had previously occupied the slot taken over by the Dominicans.

The Dominican Republic Team's games counted towards the final standings, although the team itself was not eligible for postseason play because it played an abbreviated schedule.

The team was managed by José Cano. Because it was assembled hastily and officials were unable to do the appropriate paperwork in time to obtain visas for all the players they wanted to bring along, the first version of the team proved to be overmatched by its competitors. It was particularly weak on the mound, with an ERA above 10, but they were also victims of a no-hitter thrown by Phillippe Aumont of the Ottawa Champions.

In 2018, they returned for another tour, but had to abandon their schedule midway through because of transportation problems. They were replaced by the Hollywood Stars, who completed the slate of games.
